Jr. Systems Administrator
August 2015 - February 2019
Luma Pictures is a visual effects studio with locations in Santa Monica, California and Melbourne, Victoria. As the Junior Systems Administrator, I was the first point of contact for all incoming issues within the Santa Monica office. A normal day for me started with a run through of all technical areas of the office (i.e. conference rooms, theatre, all client-facing spaces) to make sure the technology was both functioning and presentable. From there I would spend most of the day responding to incoming tickets through Zendesk, looking into server issues reported by our monitoring systems, and working on projects. Most of the incoming issues required me to quickly diagnose and repair hardware, software, and connectivity problems artists were having on their CentOS machines. I had several projects ongoing every day, most being self-assigned. These projects usually involved research on long-term issues or technology upgrades. The last project I worked on before leaving the company was a complete conference room renovation. I spent months researching companies, tech, and programs before managing the installation of a Crestron control system. The conference rooms originally had several remote controls per room, messy tech and cables, and caused my department multiple issues per day. After the renovation, we had one iPad controlling each room, in-ceiling speakers and microphones, a clean look with no tech on the tables, and, most importantly, a reliable system with few issues. Overall, Luma has given me invaluable experience working in a fast-paced environment, allowed me the time necessary to learn, and jump-started my passion for tech.
AmeriCorps Service Member
2014 - 2015
City Year, founded in 1988, is an education-focused nonprofit organization through AmeriCorps that partners with high need public schools to provide full-time targeted student interventions. As a corps member, I committed to a year of full-time service in a high-risk middle school in Koreatown. I spent the majority of the day providing individualized academic support to a focus list of 11 students and whole class support to 40 students alongside four different partner teachers. Besides that, my teammates and I were in charge of campus/community support through an after-school program of approximately 60 students and community events. Each day I followed my group of 40 students to their math, English, history, and science classes, during which I would function as a second teacher, providing individual support or lessons to my focus list students as well as the rest of the class. On some days I would pull focus list students out of class for supplementary lessons designed by me, that focused on bringing them back up to grade level performance in mathematics and English. I was able to provide them with specific and individualized support using California's Common Core Standards alongside Scholastic’s Student Reading Inventory and Student Math Inventory, which were tests we administered 3 times throughout the year to monitor growth. As whole-school and community support, I planned and implemented several events with my team throughout the year. If you want to know more about the events I was in charge of, check out my project page.
IT Technician
2012 - 2014
The ITS Help Desk is the technology center of USD and supports all students, faculty, and staff across the campus. As a technician, I worked with student and faculty computers over the phone and in person, dealt with software and hardware issues on laptops and desktops, managed technical school-wide problems that occurred, and worked with customers on a day-to-day basis. The majority of each day consisted of hardware replacement and laptop troubleshooting, which involved running different scans on Mac and Windows computers to diagnose issues. I also spent a great deal of time on phone support, which involved walking students, faculty, staff, and alumni through both computer issues and school-wide system problems either over the phone or through a remote desktop access program.
Brand Ambassador
2010 - 2014
I worked for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as both a tour guide and as general office support. While in the office I would file, sort, fax, and type all internal and external correspondence, greet incoming students and answer all questions about the university or the application process. I also spent time working the phone system, primarily assisting incoming students and applicants with the application and acceptance process, scheduling appointments, and redirecting calls throughout the university. As an ambassador working with SOAR (Student Outreach And Recruitment) I gave specialized tours and information sessions to groups of multicultural students, often from low-income communities. And with the Admissions Office I provided information sessions and group tours to current applicants, incoming students, and parents.

Education
University of San Diego
2010 - 2014
While at the University of San Diego I studied both Psychology and English. My focus in psychology was child development and my emphasis in English was creative writing.
Outside of class I spent most of my time working or organizing several clubs. I am a founder of Kappa Delta Sorority and helped to establish the sorority’s presence on campus, helping put on annual events and serving as the chapter Guard.
I was also largely involved in Founders Club and the Psychology Club. The Psych Club was a typical, major focused organization that put on open events for the entire student body. I was the publicist and assisted in the planning, organization and implementation of guest speaker events, mixers, and field trips to organizations such as the California Wolf Center.
The Founders Club is a service organization through the Sacred Heart schools and within the club I was the Orphanage Coordinator. As the head of this position I worked with Hogar Infantil, an orphanage in La Gloria, Mexico. In organizing trips to visit the children I was in charge of scheduling the event, advertising, coordination with the university, meeting university policies, transportation, and creating a budget for all supplies. I was also in charge of making sure each event went smoothly, bringing all donations, games, and lunch supplies for all the children.
La Jolla High School
2006 - 2010
In high school I was involved with the cheerleading squad. My team and I travelled with the football team to all games, providing support to both them and crowd. However, I spent most of my time in high school at USA Freestyle Martial Arts. I trained with USAFMA for 8 years in mixed martial arts and spent the last 4 years as an assistant teacher. I travelled between the main school location and three YMCA locations to teach children ages 4 and up mixed martial arts and self-defense.
